Caddis Klinkhammer
Tied by Randy Brock
I was sent this recipe last year
from Randy Lage, fellow fly tyer and angler, and thought I’d give it a go.
He didn’t invent the Klinkhammer of course, but it looked like a fun fly to
fish… to me anyway.
Hook:
Size 14 scud hook, I used TMC 2488
Thread:
Uni-thread 8/0 Olive
Wing
(parachute post): White Para-post
Shuck:
Brown Z-lon or similar
Ribbing:
One strand of pearlescent Krystal Flash
Body:
Caddis green dubbing
Head:
Caddis brown dubbing
Hackle:
Grizzly golden brown
Tie in white parachute post. Make a good, solid thread wrap around post for ease of tying in hackle later. Wrap thread back to bend and tie in shuck. Tie in strand of Krystal flash for ribbing. Dub green body to within a short distance of post to allow for head dubbing. Wrap forward rib and secure at forward end of body, clip excess. Dub brown head forward toward hook eye, then dub lightly back to just behind the post for ease of attaching hackle. Wrap thread to the top of your thread post. Tie in hackle at the top of where you wrapped your thread on the post, wrap thread back toward hook, then wrap hackle downward toward the hook and tie off hackle with a few wraps of thread. Trim excess hackle. I finished the fly with a few half-hitches at the hook eye.
