This is my variation of the Graphic Caddis. This pupa has
out fished my other pupa patterns for the last two years and has now become a
regular in my box. The over-body is a new material that is almost transparent
and very tactile, feel it. It does come in different colors and I have been
experimenting with them as well. The stuff reminds me of the first rubber
worms that used to melt into the plastic trays of my tackle box so don't throw
this into a Myran box, it may melt! I have had no problems sticking it into my
foam boxes.
The brightness possessed by UV materials is becoming more
important to the fly tier as we learn about how fish react to it. I am in the
camp that believes sparse use, is better than overdoing it. There is evidence
showing up that eludes to; In identical patterns, the addition of UV material
is out fishing those that lack it. I'm not sure if we will ever know, but it
looks cool.
Tying instructions are simple and straight forward.
using d-rib v-rib, the new material makes it more difficult and we can
address that if it ever gets to market. Let me know if you think it has
potential.
1. Tie in over-body. (Fat body will result if the
over-body is tied in the entire length of the shank. Cut material at sharp
angle and just tie in tip, the body will be skinnier.
2. Flashabou tie in to bend, wrap forward
3. wrap over body forward to 2/3 point. Leave room for
dubbing and herl and tie off.
4. Mix dubbing, form small loose ball in front of body
5. Tie in legs/wings on each side
6. Tie in ostrich tight up against dubbing and wrap
forward to eye.
