Dark Hendrickson (variation)

Tied by Norm Zimmerman
Materials:
Hook: #14 dry fly hook (Tiemco, Mustad, etc.)
Thread: #6/0 brown
Rib: 3/0 brown
Tail: 7-8 moose body hairs or dun fibetts
Body & Thorax: Hendrickson pink dubbing or any mixture to achieve the gray-pink underbody color
Wing: dun-dyed deer hair or natural deer hair
Hackle: medium dun
Instructions:
1. Place hook in vise and start thread at hook eye. Wind back to about mid-shank.
2. Tie in about 7-8 stacked moose body hairs.
3. Wind thread back to hook bend, and tie in rib.
4. Wind thread to thorax position, and tie in the deer hair post wing with tips angled slightly forward. (Note: If you wish to divide the post wing, you can do so, but I find the divided wing style no more effective than the single post.)
5. Run the thread back to the tail position, and dub a slim body up to the wing post.
6. Leave the thread in front of the wing.
7. Wind the rib forward to tying thread, and tie it off.
8. Tie in a medium dun hackle just behind the wing.
9. Lightly dub the thorax area.
10. Return thread to hook eye.
11. Wind hackle forward with three turns directly behind the wing post and three directly in front.
Tie off the hackle and form a neat head.
