Polar Bugger

Tied by Dave Anderson

Materials:

Hook: Mustad R74 #4 (any streamer hook will suffice)

Thread: Black Uni-thread 6/0

Lead Underwraps: 20-25 turns of .30 lead wire

Body: Polar Chenille (brown or olive brown)

Tail: Three pieces of aligned black marabou

Flash: Six strands of pearlescent krystal flash tie on both sides of the marabou

Wire/Hen Hackle: I don’t use any, but it could be optional

Legs: Two black/tan medium rubber legs

Comments:

The Polar Bugger is just a variation of a woolly bugger without the use of overwrapping wire or hen hackle; the buggy look to the polar chenille eliminates the necessity for the hen hackle.  The rubber legs also add to the motion of the fly as well.  It’s tied with a fair amount of weight.  I like to get my streamers down, and the buoyancy of the rubber legs doesn’t help much.  This is a great pattern for trout, as well as smallies and other toothy critters.
