Tape Wing Caddis

Hook: dry fly 12-16
Thread: black 6/0
Wing: Scotch tape, partridge wing feather
Body: hare's ear dubbing (brown-tan, olive, or black)
Hackle: dry fly hackle (ginger, dun, or black)
Antennae: partridge wing feather barbules
Tying Instructions: To make the wing, cut the top 1/2 inch of a partridge wing feather and stick the bottom side to a piece of Scotch tape. brush the top/feather with Dave's flexament. When dry, trim to shape and fold in half. The feather is the top, the tape is the bottom side of the wing. This gives the wing a realistic translucent look when viewed from below. Dub the body. Add about two turns of hackle, pulled to the bottom of the fly. Attach the wing with seven strong wraps. Tin in antennae. Whip finish the head. To increase the wing's stability during casting, add a drop of super glue or epoxy between the front half of the wing and the body. A great fly to use when fish are being selective.
