Slow Water Caddis
Submitted by Warren Frank

Hook: #16 dry fly hook (or whatever size you require)
Thread: 8/0 to match the color of your fly (I used dun
colored)
Body: Superfine dubbing to match the color of the natural you
want to match. I used brownish dun.
Wing: 1mm foam cut to the shape of a caddis wing.
Hackle: Grizzly, sized to your hook, wrapped sparsely (I used 3
wraps) and trimmed underneath the hook in a "V" shape so the fly sits
closer to the water.
Cut the foam into the shape of a caddis wing (small "christmas tree"
shape) to form the wings. Trim the rear edge to be a little
"rounded." Then color the wing with a magic marker to a tan or
dun color. You will then tie the wing onto the hook at the
"point" of the "christmas tree." I've enclosed a piece
of foam for you to use.
When tying this fly, sparse is the key. You're not looking for the
"bushy" appearance of an Elk Hair Caddis, but something very sparsely
dressed.
