Rub A Dub Leech

Tied by Brian Swancutt

HOOK:  TMC 9394 SIZE 6

BEAD:  5/32ND COUNTER SUNK-GOLD (MORE ON THIS IN INSTRUCTIONS)

TAIL: BLACK MARABOU PLUME

BODY: RUB A DUB DUBBING BRUSH

HACKLE: BLACK NECK HACKLE

TYING INSTRUCTIONS: The body of this fly is a rub a dub brush. This is created by using Doug Swisher’s dubbing machine. Go to www.dougswisher.com to view this.  I used black rabbit body fur, flash enhancer and micro black rubber legs to create the brush. The tie is pretty straight forward. Tie in marabou, advance thread, attach dubbing brush, wind thread to back of bead, wind dubbing brush to bead, (comb out using fingers with each wrap.) tie off, tie in neck hackle, (3 wraps) tie off using the finishing knot of your choice,( I use a half hitch) and then coat w/ head cement. (Hard As Nails)

I like to keep the fly all black and paint the bead w/an acrylic paint and then put on two coats of clear, sparkle finger nail polish.

FISHING NOTES: The hook is 3x heavy and the dubbing brush is created by using two strand of fine steel wire… add a bead head and there is really no need for extra weight.

This is a “frog water” fly…. Those areas on streams where there is deep slow water w/ a mucky bottom. I have had some good days fishing this very slowly through these areas.
