Current Conditions For Southeast Minnesota

16 January 2012:

I've been out three times since the New Year, and fishing has been exceptional.  The mild winter weather has certainly made catching much easier than normal.  Yesterday was a little tougher with some consistent wind and shelf ice.  Medium to larger sized Driftless creeks can have a tendency to develop shelf ice during stretches of cold weather.  Once it warms up a bit, all that ice begins to crack and drift away, making fishing that much more challenging.

A few reminders;  Catch-and-release, barbless hooks.  Stay off the redds (just stay out of the water in general).  There are some very specific streams and boundaries for the winter season: Stream Regulations.  Please turn in poachers and anglers who are not following the rules (like fishing outside the boundaries).
